Like some of his colleagues who are seeking to preserve terroir differences in their various wines, Sebastian Zuccardi vinifies mostly in concrete tanks and eggs, and also makes extensive use of concrete and used foudres to age his wine. He told me that he hasn’t purchased any new barriques in the past four years. Wine maker notes 100% Malbec from a small parcel of very shallow calcerous-drive soils. The wine is fermented and aged in unlined concrete vats, mostly eggs. 50% of the wine is fermented with whole clusters. The resulting wine has a deep red color with violet hues.
Producer Familia Zuccardi is a family owned winery started in 1963 when they planted the first vineyard in Maipu, then a desert region, followed in 1973 by a second vineyard in Santa Rosa, another desert.
