This mystical marc spirit from Cantabria was distilled in ancient times by the monks of the monasteries of Liebana using grapes from the local vineyards. Folklore tells of the Celts of northern Spain reciting a spell over the liquor, while heating it in an earthen bowl over an open flame at harvest festivals, a custom still maintained today.
