Vineyard History : In 1847, along the banks of Jacobs Creek, Johann Gramp planted his first vineyard. His vision was to create great tasting wines that reflect the true character of the grapes and the land. To this day we live and breathe this vision by producing wines that showcase how each grape variety expresses itself when shaped by the soil and the sun of Australia. In over 160 years of heritage, Jacob's Creek has won almost 7,000 awards. Wine Description : Centenary Hill is Selected from a handful of low yielding vineyards in close proximity to the creek in Rowland Flat. The type of fruit sought for Centenary Hill Shiraz is often found in Kochs Willandra vineyard, where some of the vines exceed 90 years. Wine Style is a densely textured full bodied Shiraz displaying rich ripe plum, dark chocolate-like Barossa fruit with notes of spice and generous soft tannins. Barrel maturation occurs in specially selected new and one-year old French and American oak hogsheads for 20 to 24 months. Tasting Note: Full bodied, yet soft and supple with ripe berry fruit flavours, well integrated stylish oak, leading to a long, fine finish. Product History : This wine was named after the site known as Centenary Hill where in 1947 Fred Gramp planted a Moreton Bay Fig tree overlooking the Orlando winery to commemorate 100 years since his grandfather Johann Gramp planted his first vines on the banks of Jacobs Creek. Tasting Notes: A surprisingly elegant nose reflecting the cooler vintage, showing regionally distinctive ripe black and red fruits with clove spice highlihgts, which are classic Centenary Hill trademarks. The carefully selected oak add cedar and a touch of char that rounds out the nose. Full bodied, yet soft and supple, the wine shows ripe berry fruit flavors that contribute to a richly textured mid-palate. Fine grained tannins and well integrated stylish oak show the benefits of bottle maturation. Well balanced acidicty allows the wine to retain freshness and line for a long, fine finish.
