Schramsberg Cremant is a delicate off-dry, dessert-style wine: an American original. Cremant is French for "creamy" and traditionally refers to a sparkling wine with less pressure and softer effervescence. Our Cremant has roughly half the pressure of our other sparkling wines, it presents a creamier texture, and has more exotic flavors.
This delicious sparkler has a spicy, floral character, which will evolve into rich, caramelized apricot and peach flavors with further aging. The sweetness in Cremant is subtle, providing a fine balance with desserts such as fruit tarts, poached fruit, light cakes, custards, exotic sorbets, creme caramel, gingerbread and creme brulee. It also complements a wide range of spicy Asian foods and matches especially well with foie gras.

We made California`s first Cremant in 1972. After rigorous study we chose the unusual California grape named Flora (a cross of Semillon and Gewurztraminer developed at U. C. Davis) to be the core component of this cuvee. This grape unites the fruit forward character of Gewurztraminer with the strength and depth of Semillon. We age the Cremant on the yeast for about three years, which adds complexity, yet allows it to retain its attractive youthfulness. |

| In 1862, German immigrants Jacob and Annie Schram established Schramsberg as the first winery with vineyards planted on the hillsides of the Napa Valley. With the help of Chinese laborers, vineyards replaced scrub oak, and a network of underground caves was tunneled into the soft, volcanic rock. In 1965, Jack and Jamie Davies assumed stewardship of the winery with the mission to produce America's first méthode champenoise sparkling wines, using the noble grapes of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the classic, old-world tradition. Each vineyard would be vinified separately to create small, individual lots of base wine, then painstakingly selected and handcrafted into America's artisan sparkling wines. The spark that ignited the American sparkling wine industry in 1965 continues to burn in the second generation of the Davies family to helm the winery. Today Hugh Davies, winemaker and general manager of Schramsberg, is devoted to carrying on his parent's vision: to create America's premier sparkling wines. Our winemaker's passion for constant refinement of vineyard sources and winemaking techniques is captured in each bottle.
