Wolfburn - No. 128 Small Batch Release #1 Whisky 70CL

This whisky is the first in a series of Small Batch releases from the Wolfburn distillery. Matured in small ex-Bourbon casks that had previously contained peated whisky, imparting a subtle smokiness to the whisky. Named after the location it was matured - Warehouse No1, Row 28. Only 6000 bottles were produced. Peated to 10ppm. Official tasting notes: Natural colour and initially sweet with vanilla and toffee notes on the nose, followed by a tang of smoke mixed with dried apples and nutmeg. On the palate the sweetness of dark chocolate melds with dried apricots and oranges. Complex flavours continue to unfold, with warm spices leading to a tantalisingly smoke-infused finish. Our Tasting Notes: Nose: Lemon mooses, soft smoke with an oatmeal/cereal/fresh barley nnote, grassy ginger spice, orange rind, white chocolate bitters, aromatic almost soapy vanillin oak and a touch of menthol. Palate: Quite an oily and waxy delivery with some more green vegetal notes to begin (bell peppers) softening into lime curd/cordial, lemongrass and menthol. Some late white pepper and wasabi like heat and anise here too. Finish: Spicy with more green fruit and vegetal like notes and a white pepper/aromatic wood smoke finish. Impressive complexity here for just a 3 year old malt and just the right level of smoke here to compliment the Wolfburn style spirit.
