Château Sociando Mallet is located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, just north of Saint-Estèphe in the Haut-Médoc. Owned by Jean Gautreau until his passing in 2019, the estate is renowned for producing classically styled, age-worthy Bordeaux wines despite not being part of the 1855 classification. With its gravel-rich terroir and proximity to the Gironde estuary, the vineyard is ideally situated for growing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Description The 2022 vintage reveals a deep, inky purple hue in the glass. Aromas of ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and graphite intertwine with notes of violet, tobacco, and cedar. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied, with firm yet polished tannins and a core of juicy dark fruit supported by a backbone of fresh acidity. Hints of crushed stones and savoury herbs lend added complexity. The finish is persistent, refined, and marked by a classic Médoc structure. Food Pairing This structured red wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, or duck breast with red wine reduction. Its depth and minerality also complement wild mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Manchego.
