Borgogno Barolo Fossati 2019 750ml
$287.00 price per bottle
The wine is a rich, transparent brick red or a ruby/brick colour with medium intensity. It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, the varietal responsible for Italy’s finest aged wines. The aroma includes notes of tobacco, violet, ripe black-skinned fruit, and cake spice, with forward spices of anise, white pepper, smoky incense, and dried cherries. Other notes include red fruits, light oak, and chocolate. The full-bodied and enveloping palate delivers fleshy Morello cherry, black raspberry, cinnamon, and mocha, with citrus-inflected and rocky dried mineral notes. Additional flavours noted are cherries, plums, currants, light wood, spices, coffee, earth, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, and black pepper. The wine is complex, with tension and nervous energy, showing fresh acidity and a clean feel. It has tightly woven, fine-grained tannins that lend a velvety texture and medium-plus finish with fine-grained tannins and tangy raspberries. The wine is made from organically grown grapes and the vineyard practices are transitioning to organic farming. The optimal drinking window is generally suggested as 2026–2046.
