The varietal composition is 100% Sangiovese Grosso. The wine is a strong ruby red, tending towards garnet. It presents a complex medley of aromas, including herbal, tobacco, and tomato-like notes, with others finding eucalyptus, plum, dried cherry, vanilla, clove, old balsamic, leather, and cigar. The nose is also described as showing underbrush, ripe black-skinned fruit, camphor, toasted nut, and vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied, powerful, and structured. It features rich, taut acidity and huge, beautifully ripened tannins. The flavours include cherries and black cherries with some dried fruits, a complex and layered profile with forest floor/tea leaves and spice, and a silky richness of ripe red and black fruits. Stylistically, it is classical and harmonious, boasting great balance and structure. It is a regal and rare wine that is drinking well now but can be laid down for another 10-20 years.
